讀后感:過去,在歐洲,抵制或拒絕孟山都多是民眾或非官方組織,而歐盟官方機構往往做出不得罪、甚至有利于孟山都的決定。這是頭一次,歐盟官方機構公開表示拒絕孟山都公司。因此,故事似乎平淡無奇或小事一樁,但其意義足夠重要。在徹底禁止轉基因農業的道路上,歐洲又邁出了重要一步。

Monsanto employees are to be denied access to the European Parliament. The decision was taken Thursday by the conference of the presidents, which includes the inst itution's president and political group leaders, after the chemical multinational refused to participate in a hearing on glyphosate, a weedkiller that is used in Monsanto's Roundup product. The firm is suspected of influencing scientific assessments, on which EU decisions to authorise the product were based.

European MPs agreed that lobbyists representing controversial US-based agricultural giant Monsanto should be barred from the European Parliament after the company refused to attend a hearing on allegations that it influenced studies on the safety of its products.
The measure includes meeting MEPs, attending parliamentary committee meetings and using the parliament’s digital resources in Brussels or Strasbourg, following a vote in which all major parliamentary factions supported the ban.

MEPs withdraw parliamentary access after the firm shunned a hearing into allegations that it unduly influenced studies into the safety of glyphosate used in its RoundUp weedkiller.
Monsanto lobbyists have been banned from entering the European parliament after the multinational refused to attend a parliamentary hearing into allegations of regulatory interference.
It is the first time MEPs have used new rules to withdraw parliamentary access for firms that ignore a summons to attend parliamentary inquiries or hearings.
Monsanto officials will now be unable to meet MEPs, attend committee meetings or use digital resources on parliament premises in Brussels or Strasbourg.
